what is the etymology of timshel
Name: timshel
From: Southampton, United Kingdom
Genre: Alternative/Alt. Rock, Blues, grunge, hard rock, classic rock
Already a well known name on the rock circuit in Southampton, Timshel have been honing their bluesy brand of rock 'n' roll for a while now but since being rejoined by Rob Litten on drums they have really found their groove.
The Black Crowes fronted by "Vs" era Eddie Vedder with Jimmy Page on guitar goes some way to describing the sound but in no way does it justice. There are touches of Blind Melon, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, basically it is a melting pot of the rock illuminati.
Fronted by James Carey (who posses the kind of voice that can only come from just the right mix of cigarettes and alcohol) they are water tight 4 piece, Paul Carter and Rob provide the foundation for Jami to build on with some truly amazing guitar work. Each song is crafted with a keen ear for melody and obeying the unwritten rule of rock, always have a chorus with a monster hook and a sing-a-long refrain!
Let me introduce you to your new favourite band!

Band Biography
BAND BIOGRAPHY

Reformed in late 2009 after an 18 month lay off, Timshel originally formed way back in 2003. The band has written more than five albums of material and recently enjoyed their first official release through Southampton label Angry Badger Records with the EP "The Vagabond Cain", a re-working of the 2004 mini-album "What Am I?".
The band draw influence from just about any song they have enjoyed and sculptured a sound of 90's rock with 70's pinache for the new century. Some of the most commonly shared influences they have include Led Zepellin, Pearl Jam, The Alman Brothers, Nirvana, The Beatles, Guns N Roses, Blind Melon and The Black Crowes.
The four-piece pride themselves on musicianship and composition as well as critically acclaimed performances. Supports include Wishbone Ash and Larry Miller, and the band has played some of the best known venues in the south from Bournemouth to London.
They have their first official album release due this summer with tracks including fans favourite "High Angel", the string-laden balled "Fun For You", rock anthem "Blame" and the wonderfully subtle, latin influenced "Daddy Come Home" to name a few. With a few years more experience than other local acts, Timshel have cermented themselves firmly in Southampton's music scene primarily by the prolific writing of mini-masterpieces rammed with hooks, choruses, riffs, solos and drum fills, it's rock music as it was always intended, loud and proud!
Call Upon The Author reviews "Vagabond Cain"
Check out the review we received for our EP "The Vagabond Cain" from the Call Upon The Author website. We think the use of the word Pearl Jam and Tom Morello was a little too frequent for liking. Still a review is a review....
"As I first listened to Timshel’s EP “The Vagabond Cain” all I could hear was a bizarre Pearl Jam cover band who have decided to write their own material, however after listening a few times I came to realise this wasn’t the case at all. The mixture of classic rock and grunge along with an Audioslave-esque twang definitely inspired me to dig out older albums by the likes of Ugly Kid Joe and Soundgarden. It’s a style of music I feel is becoming more and more forgotten as the math rock and typically “indie” take over and I therefore found Timshel to be a refreshing reminder of the good ol’ favourites.

We're a four piece writing our own material and pride ourselves on our riff/hooky melodic rock!
We're based in Southampton so come along to one of our shows if you're in the area.
